When someone first starts playing, his or her fingers may be painful on the strings. The good news is that as one practices, the fingers will get more used to it, in the process toughening up. One is also likely to get calluses. Fingers may not stretch or bend the required manner for playing particular chords.
There are two ways of playing the G chord: the simple and the full one. The simple is the easiest one for those who cannot yet stretch their fingers all the way. Overall, the full sounds better. Players should put some effort to practice the full even if they can only play the simple at the moment.
To play the full one, the player moves his pinkie to the higher E string, third fret, while moving the ring finger to the B string, third fret. The index finger is taken to A string, second fret, while the middle finger is taken to the low E, third fret.
